Lymphatic Drainage

Lymphatic drainage is a massage therapy which encourages the natural drainage of the lymph (a fluid type substance) through the lymphatic system. The lymph carries waste products away from the tissues and goes through the lymph nodes. The lymph nodes work as a filter to clean the lymph before it returns back to the heart.

Some people can experience lymphedema, where they have a build up of lymph fluid usually in the arms or legs which causes swelling. This is usually caused by a bacterial infection or as a result of lymph nodes being removed due to cancer treatment.
