  • Massage - After Care Advice

Even though you have just had a relaxing treatment, and you can already feel the benefits of the treatment. Here are a few tips to ensure you look after yourself: - Drink water straight after your treatment, it's really good to drink water to help the body to sweep away waste materials from your body. - You may feel a little light-headed after the treatment, this is normal and you will feel better after a short period of time. - You may also feel tired after your treatment, this is very normal, massage not only treats your body, it also treats your mind and helps you to destress and relax so if you can... take a nap. - After treatment, you may feel sore & achy, because I have been manipulating the muscles, this is also normal and may last up to 48 hours. - A warm bath may be what you need, add a few cups of Epsom salts to help relax your muscles. Be careful not to make the bath too hot as it may exacerbate your injury. - It may take a few treatments to fully aid your recovery, but if you notice your symptoms have improved then we are on the right track. - Having regular Massages are a great way to manage & maintain your body and mind, If you are planning to more than 1 treatment a month, you may be interested in my membership offer, to help you save money on your future treatments. • Why I trained to become an 'EMMETT Technique' Therapist?

I must admit I had never heard of EMMETT Technique, until a friend of mine told me he had been treated with EMMETT Technique on his back and he found the results were amazing. His back pain disappeared instantly! So of course I did my due diligence to find out more and I thought 'ok'. Then one day a client had booked a friend in to see me for a Sports Massage. She was visiting from Australia and she was having problem with her shoulder. She was trained in EMMETT Technique, but she was unable to treat herself due to location of the injury. I treated her with massage but during the treatment we were talking about EMMETT Technique and the results it could achieve and how 'long term' it could allow me to treat my clients and achieve the same results but be less physically demanding on my body as a Sports Massage Therapist. This was the second time EMMETT Technique had been mentioned to me, so it must be sign that I needed to sign up... So I did! Back in 1997 while enjoying life as a Sports Studies Student at Southampton University, I was playing a lot of Hockey and I remember after a playing a Saturday match for Eastleigh I was experiencing a pain in my hip and groin. I was having difficulty walking I was in so much pain I was in tears when I attempted to put a sock on! The next day I was at the Doctors and he then referred me to see a Physiotherapist. After a consultation with the Physiotherapist, he concluded that I had one leg longer than the other and ever since then I have been wearing a 5mm heel lift in all of my footwear which sorted out my problem and so I just accepted this was the way it was going to be. Up until now......After speaking to a Podiatrist and what I have learned since becoming a Sport Massage Therapist over the past few years, I believe my leg length discrepancy was relating to my posture and muscles. So prior to the EMMETT Technique course in May 2017, I decided to remove my heel lift to understand what problems I would feel. A couple of weeks in everything was going fine and I was not in discomfort, but while having a short break in the New Forest, my daughter had just got a new bike for her birthday we took the bike with us so that she could try it out. There were moments where I would run along side her or just walk along the track. She had a great time! We then made the long drive home way back to Marden. On the way home I was a little bit uncomfortable in the car, my back felt a little bit 'strange' and I thought nothing of it. When we got home and I attempted to get out of the car....well....my right hip/groin did not want to earn it's keep! it did not want to hold up my body at all, I limped, hopped, staggered into house! it was crazy....I was re-living the pain I was in back in 1997. After a few days my hip settled and I was able to walk fairly well with reduced pain. The EMMETT Technique course was imminent, so I thought I would hold off from seeing a GP/Therapist because I knew what the problem was. I would see first hand if this course was as good it was suggested. Well what can I say!......Luckily the first few modules related to the muscles in the core of the body which was fantastic for me. After the first 2 days of the course I was surprisingly shocked about how I physically felt. Only light touch was used to connect to the muscles, but because my problem was relating to a weak core, I physically felt I had just done 10 rounds with Mike Tyson, because my muscles were responding to the treatment. The following days after the treatment, I felt different. I had even less pain in my hip. I really felt like something had changed for the better and I could not believe how painless it was to get that result. During the whole course I had learnt how to treat the surrounding muscles in my hip, after each training session and 'self treating' I was feeling more confident in my hip, the pain had significantly reduced and I was feeling like I had my hip back again. I can definitely say from personal experience EMMETT Technique really worked for me and I am so glad I chose the learn EMMETT Technique. I hope I can help my clients to become pain free. • A Brief History of Massage

Massage was found to have evolved over 5000 years ago. Evidence can be found in Greek, Roman and Chinese historical records. Massage was performed by the accent equivalent to modern doctors. Massage was found to have healing benefits to help relieve pain, heal injuries, cure and prevent illnesses as well as to help induce deep relaxation and help to reduce stress. It was the Ancient Greeks, who had a strong sense of physical culture and it was no surprise massage was a common practice to decrease 'knots' by rubbing the muscle tissue. These techniques were very similar to the modern-day techniques which are now used by Sports Massage Therapists. The Medical Pioneer Hippocrates recognised the effects of massage and prescribed treatments in the form of 'rubbing and frictioning' the muscles to aid healing. Hippocrates research was more common with Holistic medicine and promoted well-being by encouraging, exercise, a good diet, sleep and music. Modern-day Massage as we know it today was developed in the 19th Century by Per Henril Ling, who developed the massage techniques and created Swedish/Holistic Massage. Over the years Scientific knowledge has increased to understand the body's response to massage, but massage as an applied healing technique has not changed dramatically as we have not physically changed much since the Ancient Greeks & Egyptians. As Massage can treat the most common types of pain with the most natural form of medicine (human touch) for as long as people are prone to discomfort or illness, massage will always exist as a healing practise.

  • Revolut.....a new way to have money on your travels.

Looking for a prepaid card which you can use at home and abroad? I have been using my Revolut card since 2018. It is amazing! I got shown this card by a client, because they were working abroad a lot. Their salary was being paid into it, but the card easily allowed them to move their money from Euros into Sterling. I set up the Revolut app on my phone and from there I requested a card. It was easy and I received my card a few days later. The app is great! We were planning our summer holidays and I wasn’t keen to take all of my spending money as cash. I was able to load my card with sterling from my bank account and then transfer the sterling into Euros on my phone. There! half my holiday money was stored on my card. It was brilliant on holiday, food shopping, eating out was all paid for using the Revolut card. (The card would automatically debit from the account from the appropriate currency) The exchange rate is very competitive and there are no charges to exchange. If I owed someone money, that was simple too. If they were a Revolut card holder and are on my contacts list, I could transfer the money to them or, I could store their bank account details to my account and I could pay them that way and vice versa, if they owed me money I could also send a payment link to them and they pay me that way. It’s so easy! Another great feature is that you can control the security on the card. You can freeze the card if you lose it, you can set limits, you can control if you don’t want use the contactless feature and you disable the card from being used online. You can even add the card to your wallet on your smart phone. When you are not using the card abroad, it is great to use the vaults feature. These are like little saving pots within the app, you can set up regular payments to send money to the vaults from the main balance on the card. I use it to save for small things like saving money for my daughters piano lessons. or keeping money aside to pay my daughter's train fare which I buy termly. Overall I really like the card, and I’ll be using it again to carry my holiday money. it’s offers so much more than a regular bank card. • Product Review - GoHenry Card

Are you a mum who is awful at paying out weekly allowances? Or not rewarding your child for helping out around the house? Then you maybe interested in a GoHenry account. I signed up to one back in 2018 and now my daughter thinks I am the best thing since sliced bread! I have to say, I really do like this product. I downloaded the GoHenry app on my phone and set up my parent account, I was then able to set up my child account and order a card. The Parent app is great, I top up the card one a month by standing order with enough money to cover the monthly fee (£2.99), allowances and a bit extra if my daughter completes chores each week. The GoHenry Card is great because my parent account is set to automatically give her a weekly allowance. When she completes set weekly goals I can pay her an agreed amount by ticking the task. Another feature about the card is that you can control the spending limits on the card, at cash points and online shopping. Which I think is fantastic. There is even a piggy bank which allows my daughter to set up a savings account within the card. GoHenry has just come up with another fantastic feature 'Gift Links', as children get older, they are going to want the biggest and most expensive items. Well, 'Gift Link' will allow you to send a link to friends and family and they can send Birthday money, Christmas money straight to the GoHenry account. Overall all I think the GoHenry card is great, It is great for providing consistency of paying allowance and my daughter has an opportunity of being rewarded for helping around the house. If you would like to try GoHenry for yourself, click here and you will receive £10 which will be added to your parent account. There is also another way to save money for your children when you shop, its called Kidstart

  • Maintaining Good Posture when working from home.

When speaking to many of my clients, more often I hear people are working from home a few days a week. The reason they may visit me is that they might have tight shoulders or their neck is stiff. It is normal to have tight shoulders an stiff neck occasionally and regular massage may help to release the tension. But poor posture may contribute to increasing the tension in the neck and shoulders. When I use to work in an office many moons ago, within my management role, I regularly had to assess each member of my team’s workspace, ensuring their chair were set in right position to their computer and phone. If a footrest was required or if their computer screen had to be raised so it was in the right position, I had to order the equipment required to ensure my team was working at optimum comfort so they could complete their roles. It was the company’s way of ensuring maximum productivity and reducing sickness. You have to remember you are working at a desk all day from 9 to 5, you are encouraged to have breaks throughout the day, but ultimately you need to be comfortable. When I hear clients are working from home, I do ask if they work from a computer or a laptop to help me understand their routines/posture. 9 times out of 10 it’s a laptop. When you think about sitting at a laptop for 7-8 hours, your neck in looking down towards the screen, your arms may be stretched out too far because you can’t see the screen because it’s too close to you. You are sat at the kitchen table which is too low, your elbows are sticking out to try and type, which makes you slouch. Can you imagine what you look like? No wonder your neck shoulders and back hurt. Now, we all know are not really made to sit at a desk every day, walking and exercise are great to counterbalance our sedentary lifestyles. Regular massage is also great to iron out stresses and tension. (but I am biased) Through technology, businesses are finding it easier to operate and there is becoming less of a need to work from an office and more people are becoming home-based. So I wanted to help you set up your workspace at home. I have found this video which I think is great, its really basic but it summarises and highlights what you need to be aware of when you work at home and how you can set yourself to be more comfortable which may help to reduce neck and shoulder tightness.
